REACH HUMANITY FOUNDATION was founded by Asoka Dissanayake, Founder / Trustee, following many years of hands-on community service, humanitarian support and practical assistance to people in need.

How the journey began
Long before the formal establishment of the Foundation, Asoka and his family were involved in community-based welfare and support activities. Around 2004, this included helping families affected by drug-related hardship, particularly in Colombo, Mount Lavinia and surrounding areas.
During this period, many families with children were struggling to meet basic food needs. In response, Asoka helped organise a dry-ration support programme that provided essential food items every two weeks to more than 125 recipients.
Tsunami relief and recovery work
Following the devastating tsunami disaster in December 2004, Asoka became involved in relief and recovery work in Komari, near Pottuvil in the Eastern Province.
He was stationed there for approximately three and a half months as a lead support team member, working with the support and guidance of a large Christian church. The work moved from immediate relief into settlement-stage support, including community welfare, medical support, reconstruction activities, road restoration and practical assistance to help affected families rebuild their lives.
Education and student support
Following the COVID period, many students were required to continue their education from home, often with limited access to suitable devices.
Recognising this need, Asoka helped provide used computers, laptops, iPads and other digital devices to support students who were struggling to continue their studies online.
Eye care and medical outreach
Since 2021, a major focus of Asoka’s community work has been supporting eye care and medical outreach in remote and under-served villages.
Working with Dr Asela Abeydeera, and with the help of dedicated partners, Professionals, Donors and Individual Supporters, eye clinics have been conducted in rural communities including Niunhella, Komari, Meepitikanda, Panawatta, Amithirigala, Pimburaththawa, Welihellathanna and Sea Forth.
These figures are based on the documented clinic records currently listed in the Past Projects archive.
These initiatives have helped restore sight, improve independence, support livelihoods and bring dignity and confidence to people with limited access to eye care.
Practical community support
In addition to medical and eye-care work, Asoka has supported practical community needs, including assistance in Sea Forth with kitchen utensils for a small community, construction of a toilet facility, and support for four homes to obtain electricity.
Why REACH HUMANITY FOUNDATION was established
REACH HUMANITY FOUNDATION was created to bring this long-standing community involvement into a more structured charitable organisation.
The Foundation allows this work to continue with a clearer mission, stronger governance, broader collaboration and greater ability to support under-served communities across Sri Lanka.
Built on years of hands-on service, REACH HUMANITY FOUNDATION carries forward a simple belief: every person deserves to be reached with care, dignity and hope.
