In many rural communities, people live with poor eyesight, untreated cataracts, or basic health concerns simply because care is too far away, too costly, or difficult to access.

Our Rural Eye & Health Care clinics are organised with the guidance and support of a volunteer medical team, and coordinated locally through the Grama Niladhari or another trusted community leader. Notices are shared three to four weeks in advance through government notice boards, village gathering points, and other central locations so people have time to attend.

Clinics usually begin around 8.00 to 8.30 am and continue until the last patient is seen — often into the afternoon or later.

Our volunteer team usually includes an ophthalmologist, optometrists, and support volunteers who serve with genuine care and commitment. Patients receive eye checks, reading glasses, prescription spectacles where possible, and cataract surgery support when needed. On request, we may also support basic checks such as blood pressure and fasting blood sugar.

All services are provided completely free of charge, including spectacles, cataract surgery support, transport, post-operative medicine, and follow-up checks where arranged.

For each person, this can mean more than treatment. It can mean reading again, working again, seeing a loved one’s face clearly, and living with renewed dignity.
